Charlotte Russe Holding Corp sold their brand and intellectual property to North American clothing manufacturer YM Inc for an undisclosed sum, who plan to launch a fresh brand and retail platform that “allow the company to continue growing into the future,” as stated in their press release.

As Daniel Lawrence expanded their apparel retail chain with two distinct brands such as Charlotte Russe and Rampage stores that specialize in established trends at reasonable prices while Rampage stores specialize in cutting-edge fashions and accessories.
Charlotte Russe stores were located in Rockland Plaza off Route 59 in Nanuet and Jefferson Valley Mall at 650 Lee Blvd in Yorktown Heights – both stores were shut down after Charlotte Russe filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the start of February.

In early February, this company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection along with Peek for children’s apparel; later 94 stores would close, such as those at Rockland Plaza Nanuet and Jefferson Valley Mall Yorktown Heights as part of this restructuring plan; although intellectual property may still be sold while online sales will still continue.

As yet, it remains uncertain how the bankruptcy will impact those still looking to shop at its locations – including those in the Lower Hudson Valley. On Thursday, its liquidation sale will commence with 50% off all in-store items and 40% off online purchases – gift cards can still be redeemed until March 21.

Selling to Charlotte Russe Stores in Person
Charlotte Russe has joined an industry that has witnessed many retailers collapse as it announces it will close all stores by filing bankruptcy last month and holding going out-of-business sales until April’s end. Owned by private equity firm Advent International since 1975.
Originally, this retail chain intended to use its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to shed debt and find a buyer to keep its brand alive. Unfortunately, their hope fell flat this week when liquidator SB360 Capital Partners won an auction of their assets; as a result of which, all inventory and intellectual property will have been sold off to SB360 but their name rights will still be preserved.
Charlotte Russe was founded by Daniel Lawrence and his brothers in 1975 as an American clothing retail chain specializing in fashionable clothes for teenage and twentysomething female customers. Now with over 560 locations worldwide primarily within malls or shopping centers in 45 states, this retail chain provides contemporary apparel designed to blend comfort with fashion for customers aged 15-35 years.
Charlotte Russe includes the Peek Kids brand for selling children’s apparel; there were ten Peek Kids stores operating at the time of its bankruptcy filing.
Selling to Charlotte Russe Stores in the Future
Charlotte Russe offers contemporary clothing and accessories designed to complement every aspect of women’s lives, combining softness, fluidity, femininity, fashion and design into softly feminine yet fashionable looks. Targeting customers aged 15-35, Charlotte Russe offers established trends at value price points.
Beginning this year, Peek Clothing filed for bankruptcy protection and announced plans to close 94 stores. Brookfield Square, Bayshore Town Center and East Towne Mall locations were among those planned for closure; later the company stated it may liquidate if no buyer could be found.
Liquidation was ultimately unsuccessful and now Charlotte Russe and Peek brands are under new ownership. Toronto-based apparel manufacturer YM Inc. announced in a press release that it had purchased both brands along with their intellectual property. According to YM Inc. this acquisition “unites two beloved brands on an advanced retail platform” while providing them a platform to expand in future years, according to them.
Charlotte Russe will continue operating online and through its mobile app, while also continuing in-store events like pop-up shops and style workshops, which will be posted to social media channels and websites of the brand.
Charlotte Russe stores that remain open are located at Rockland Plaza on Route 59 in Nanuet and Jefferson Valley Mall at 650 Lee Blvd. in Yorktown Heights. These stores will hold store closing sales beginning Thursday; gift card usage ends March 21. Charlotte Russe filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to being acquired by private equity firms but finding that their business model wasn’t sustainable, joining an increasing trend among retailers acquired through private equity that have filed since 2009 (15% according to Retail Dive report).
