What you need to know as a Fred’s vendor

Hello everyone I’m Karen Waksman, the founder of Retail MBA. Today I want to discuss a retailer called Freds and provide insights, on how to become a vendor for them. The reason behind creating this training is that I often come across opportunities when it comes to retailers. Times you might not be aware of these prospects due to your location or industry focus. Therefore, my goal is to support you by sharing ideas on how you can maximize your products profitability. Now lets get into the process of selling to Freds.

Reasons why selling to Freds is beneficial

Firstly it’s important to note that as of today Freds boasts a count of over 650 locations. This signifies their presence as a retailer that many of you may not be familiar with yet. What makes them more appealing is the range of products they offer; from snacks and toys, to books and household items they have it all covered – be it videos or music – they sell almost everything.

So again it would be worth exploring that retailer to determine if your product aligns well with their stores. They primarily operate as a discount store. Compete with retailers, like Dollar General, Family Dollar and others. Considering this it’s important to assess whether your product is a fit for their stores. Many people overlook the opportunity of partnering with Freds to generate profits.

Now let me provide you with a tip and strategy when it comes to selling to Freds. It’s essential to note that they are actually owned by Kroger, a known grocery store chain. This affiliation can be significant because if you happen to get your product into Kroger or any of its subsidiary brands and obtain a vendor number it opens up possibilities for collaborations, with retail chains.

Strategy For Selling to Fred’s

So it’s, like having your own unique identification code when you become a vendor. This code, known as a vendor number is assigned to you by the company. It helps them keep track of who you’re and all the relevant information associated with your business. The interesting part is that when a major chain owns brands they often use the vendor number for all of them.

Becoming a vendor for Freds presents an opportunity for your business. If you are already selling your products to Kroger or planning to do and you have obtained a vendor number from them you can easily approach Freds. Inform them about it. Since retail chains commonly share vendor numbers across their brands this strategy can be quite useful.

This tip can really make a difference when navigating through chains, with brands.Because you know those buyers, at chain stores are always busy. They’re constantly checking out products. Sometimes they pass on something just because they don’t want to deal with the paperwork or the hassle of becoming a vendor.

But here’s the deal; once you become a vendor for Freds there are plenty of advantages.. If you already have a vendor number for a retailer well that’s when things get interesting. You can simply let them know that all that tedious paperwork is already taken care of and they might be more inclined to give your product a try without any delays. It works the way with retailers too – if you’ve got your foot in the door, with Freds and have your own vendor number it becomes easier to approach Kroger and let their buyers know that you’re already set up as a vendor.
